Snow Leopard in the house

Snow Leopard disc besides the TARDIS

Snow Leopard disc

I received in the mail today Apple’s new operating system, Snow Leopard. I purchased it through Amazon, for the low price of $25, free shipping and no sales tax. That is a really good deal compared to the MSRP of Apple which pegs it at $30 and sales tax. A good friend of mine have cautioned me on upgrading though, advising that I should wait till reviews on performance and bug reports comes out. I might wait till this weekend, if time permits, before I upgrade but I won’t be waiting long though. I only have 1 Apple computer, an Intel iMac and I don’t realy have a lot of 3rd party software running on it. I am still more of a Windows user myself, since library school and work software that I use exist in the Windows environment. But I do like the simplicity and  beauty of Apple’s OS. For one, a lot of useful application is already included in the OS and you don’t need to buy it separate unlike in the case of Microsoft. Anyway, the reason I decided to buy the upgrade is its realtively cheap price for an OS upgrade, and the promise of improvements in stability (not that my iMac has been crashing), security, speed increases, and Quicktime Pro included. Not to mention that Snow Leopard is 64-bit with some of the OS included applicaton also going 64-bit. Well, that’s it for now. I will come up with a post on my impressions on the upgrade in a future post.
