Screen comparo # 1
I haven’t gotten into writing a review of the Gateway LT3103u that I pruchased last July. The 11.6″ screen netbook weighing a mere 3.04 lbs. with an AMD processor and ATI-Radeon CPU and GPU combination also has a 1366 x 768 screen. It also comes with 250 GB of HDD and 2 GB of RAM with Windows Vista Basic as its OS. It pioneered 11.6″ screen netbooks that are now becoming quite common with Acer with its Aspire One and Timeline series, HP wtih the Mini 31 and Dell with the Mini 11z following suit. What distinguishes the LT3103u though is its only the one in the group that has the AMD and ATI Radeon combination as the rest are using Intel with an integrated graphics card, or the Nvidia Ion in the case of the Mini 311.
I might write a fuller review of the LT 3103u one of these days, but for the meanwhile I want to share how its screen compares to the iMac.
I used the same wallpaper, which incidentally comes from the wallpaper collection for Windows 7, to show the difference in terms of color reproduction of the image. Just looking at the pictures with this post, one can see that the screen looks bluish and a bit washed out compared to the iMac. The image came out more richer and the colors darker with tones that are more defined compared to the LT 3103u. The off-white, slightly chalky look of the ceramic dolls was reproduced faithfully on the iMac. The iMac also showed the sublte changes in gradations of colors thereby creating depth and making the image more natural looking. On the other hand, the LT3103u interpreted the color of the ceramic dolls as white with a bluish tinge and presented the colors as more softer and lighter. I like how the IMac reproduced colors and was a bit dissapointed with the LT3103u when I comapred the two. Anyway, as of this moment, the LT3103u serves my needs and I am just holding off till the launch of Windows 7 before looking at getting a Samsung netbook and an Acer Timeline.
