Keurig B30 Mini Brewer in action

Coffee beans

A couple of weeks back, I was at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and saw that the Keurig B30 Mini Brewer was on clearance sale. The original price was $90, but it is now on sale for $50, and with a 20% discount coupon, the price comes out to about $40 with sales tax included. The Keurig B30 Mini Brewer is a single-serve coffee maker that brews gourmet coffee, coco, or tea. The B30 uses Keurig K-Cups, small plastic containers shaped like a pail that has a filter and ground coffee beans, coco, or tea inside and sealed with a tin foil to preserve freshness. You can usually buy them at brick and mortar stores that sells the coffeemaker or coffee, or at online stores. There’s a wide variety of choices available and they come in boxes of 20 cups with price ranging from 35 to 50 cents per K-Cup.

As an entry-level model, the B30 is limited to brewing only 8 oz. worth of coffee every serving and does not come with its own water reservoir. More expensive models from Keurig, Breville, and Cuisinart that goes for $150 to $250 have options to change the serving size, adjust the heating temperature, have its own water reservoir, brews faster, and other bells and whistles. However, for my uses, the B30 will do.

Brewing, the Keurig Way:

  1. Turn on power button.
  2. Press on silver panel to reveal drawer for K-Cup coffee.
  3. Place K-Cup inside drawer and close.
  4. A door at the end pops out to reveal a receptacle to put water.
  5. Pour in water up to fill level and close door, green light flashes.
  6. Place coffee mug on drip tray, sensor detects mug and blue brew light flashes, you can’t use crystal mugs as the sensor can’t detect it.
  7. Push brew light and cofeemaker starts heating water.
  8. Red light turns on and coffee starts to pour into mug.
  9. B30 automatically turns off when you take the mug out of the drip tray.
  10. Press siver panel again to discard used K-Cup.
